~ Laurette Gagnon Beaulieu
I love talking all things wellness…fitness, nutrition, trying new recipes, self-development, spirituality…you name it, I probably want to talk about it.
It hasn’t always been this way though. I used to eat convenient highly-processed food. Drove through the nearest drive-through on the way home. And, do you remember the low-fat craze? We could eat as much of that as we wanted…no fat!
The problem with this is, it eventually catches up to you. I was there. My clothes didn’t fit, and I just felt blah. Because of that, I tried restrictive diets and excessive exercise. I’d have success but when the “diet” ended the weight crept back up. It was a vicious cycle. I viewed exercise and nutrition as a means to an end and a necessary evil to lose weight or transform my body. I had an unhealthy relationship with food.
It wasn’t until I shifted my mindset that I started seeing long lasting results. I started focusing on the positive and stopped labeling food as “good” or “bad”. Now, instead of making certain food groups off-limits, I focus on adding in more of the food that makes me feel good.
Turns out eating amazing flavorful whole food is good for my body, mind and health! Who would have thought! 😜 I also made activity part of my daily routine. Now it’s just what I eat and what I do. It’s as much a part of my day as waking up and brushing my teeth.
Once you make this shift and start viewing nutrition and fitness as a form of self-care, that’s when the real transformation begins.
The Fountain of Youth
Your body will take care of you if you take care of it, and food and activity is the best medicine to do just that. The effects bleed over into every other aspect of your life as well…mental well-being, more energy, confidence and self-acceptance.
I am so passionate about what holistic living has done for me and want to share it with the world. I truly believe it is the fountain of youth!
However, as I talked to friends and family, I noticed a common theme. Many of them feel they have to lose weight or somehow get better before they can live the life they truly desire…perpetually living in a state of “someday”.
They focus on a short-term superficial goals. They want to lose weight for a party. Want to see a certain number on the scale. Or, they’re looking for a quick fix in a world that has commercialized and medicalized wellness.
Others simply accepted this is how it is for them without taking an honest look at their lifestyle.
The focus was always on negativity, restriction. and excuses. Until this paradigm shifts, true success can’t happen.
In enters Her Yellow Rose
A community where women can come together to support, encourage and empower one another to take control of their life. My goal is to provide a platform to help women rebuild their mind/body connection and prioritize self-care. Too often women put themselves last to take care of everyone else.
We all need to learn to love and accept our bodies as they are today. After all, without our bodies, we couldn’t be here! We should all celebrate our beautiful bodies that allow us to move, interact with the world around us or even hug a loved one. Besides, until you accept and appreciate the body you are in, it will never be enough. There will always be more weight to lose, more cellulite to hide, or some other perceived flaw to focus on.
What’s in a Name
A yellow rose symbolizes friendship, caring and joy. With their sunshine warmth, they are the perfect gift to lift spirits and send wishes of well-being.
That’s what I want this community to be for everyone. A place that feels warm and welcoming, uplifts, inspires and supports everyone on their journey. A judgement free zone where everyone is accepted and celebrated just for showing up.
On top of that, my mom loved yellow roses. We honored her with them at her celebration of life; each of us with a single yellow rose in remembrance of her. Focusing on the joy she brought into our lives.
This website is aptly named Her Yellow Rose as it is a site inspired and dedicated to her. A site that emphasizes the importance of a holistic approach to wellness that includes active living and healthy choices to enhance your quality of life. A site that provides tools for physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Something I wish had been available for my mom.
As I talked to my daughter about holistic living and how our lifestyle plays a pivotal role in our quality of life, I found myself using her grandma as an example. A woman who followed the typical western lifestyle. One consisting of eating mostly highly processed sugar laden foods with very little activity. I too followed that lifestyle for many years.
As we talked, I realized I want to help women live a holistic, healthy, happy life. Not one focused on a size or number but one focused on feeling good. One that embraces activity in whatever form that looks like to you.
I want to meet you where you are and empower women of all shapes and sizes to feel beautiful and confident to do the things they love!
Final Thoughts
Everyday is an opportunity to make new choices that move you closer to living a healthier and happier life. It’s about continuing to show up and be consistent even when you don’t want to…even when you think you’re not making progress.
I challenge you to make a commitment to yourself today to take one step (no matter how small) each day towards your goals knowing you are exactly where you need to be right now…and that’s enough!
I’d love to hear in the comments below how you’re going to show up for yourself today. Let’s get this conversation started!
I couldn’t love this narrative mores it is perfect!
